Research
Latent Interfaces was founded as a home for developing open source resources that can be applied to state-of-the-art data problems. These projects represent our research directions and the kinds of problems we help organizations solve.
[🔬] Latent Scope

Latent Scope is an open source library for finding structure in unstructured data. You can install Latent Scope locally and it will help you quickly embed, cluster and visualize your data with open models.
Check out live demos of datasets that have been processed with Latent Scope.
[🔖] Latent Taxonomy

Training our own Sparse Autoencoders for embedding models. Explore our first model or check out our technical write-up with code and training details.
[🧬] Mapping Genomic Data

Bringing new meaning to "mapping the human genome", Latent Interfaces has been working with the Altius Institute for Biomedical Sciences to develop a new way of visualizing genome-wide data. Publication is forthcoming.

Hidden States is an unconference gathering researchers, designers, prototypers and engineers interested in pushing the boundaries of AI interfaces, going below the API. We organized the first event in San Francisco in December 2024 and are looking forward to more events on both coasts in 2025!
About
Latent Interfaces was founded by Ian Johnson in 2024. Ian's background is in data visualization, studying scientific computing in graduate school and moving into web-based interfaces for several early-stage startups and large organizations like Google Cloud. While working Ian has always built and published open source tools as well as organized community events.
Since first being introduced to the idea of embeddings in 2016 while working on Distill, Ian has been fascinated by their potential to transform data visualization. Latent Interfaces was formed in 2024 to bring together researchers, designers and engineers to harness this potential and build better interfaces into data.
